Schatz to attend Waimea forum
U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz will attend a Waimea forum scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Waimea School cafeteria.
Several issues that warrant in-depth discussion have been raised by the community, so in addition to Schatz talking story, several others with expertise in these areas will join the senator at the forum. They include: Robert K. Lindsey, Trustee, Office of Hawaiian Affairs, on Native Hawaiian education; Bruss Keppeler, past president of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs and Government Relations Committee chairman for the Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, Native Hawaiian governance; David Ruf, Waimea Hawaiian Homestead Association, Hawaiian Homesteads; Ron Jarrett, chairman of the Economic Development Committee of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, Native Hawaiian organizations, employment and job training; and Franco Acquaro, psychologist at Waimea’s Kipuka o ke Ola Native Hawaiian Health Clinic in Waimea Center, Native Hawaiian health care.
Shriners bringing outreach clinic here
Shriners Hospitals for Children-Honolulu will hold an outreach clinic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.
A Shriners Hospital team visits Kona frequently to reach new patients with orthopaedic conditions who may qualify for care at the new Honolulu hospital and to provide follow-up care for patients in Kona who are receiving ongoing care from Shriners Hospital.
Children must be younger than 18 and have an orthopaedic condition that can be treated. All care at the hospital is provided free to a child.
